Even before I moved to NYC, I was obsessed with trying cronuts. One weekend I biked 44 miles roundtrip to try a delicious nutella one in the San Fernando Valley (and all the biking made me feel less guilty about my indulgence). Luckily, I also discovered a bakery in LA that made a pretty good version you could order ahead. Unfortunately, if I ever want to try the original cronut here, I have to wait in line ALL DAY. As terrible as that sounds, it now turns out that waiting in line ALL DAY is still more efficient than spending three days making your own at home. Dominique Ansel, the creator of the cronut, shared his recipe with the world today and he probably did so because he knew no one would spend half a week making a cronut (and they would appreciate his efforts even more). If you dare to try this on your own, the recipe is here. Please note that the level of difficulty is set to "Extreme."
Oh, and in case you were wondering what a butter block is, it's 18 tablespoons of butter (+ grapeseed oil + sugar + glaze, as needed).
